A total of 606 wines and spirits, from 18 producing states, compete for awards at the Mexico Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Chihuahua 2020.
The 4th edition of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles began today in the City of Chihuahua, Mexico. The wine and spirits championship, originally scheduled for the month of September 2020, is held from February 24th to 26th in response to the health emergency caused by the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Chihuahua, February 24th, 2021. The 4th edition of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, “Siguiendo el Camino de la Vid: Chihuahua 2020”, began today in the City of Chihuahua. The wine and spirits contest is organized by the Ministry of Innovation and Economic Development of the Government of Chihuahua and the Winegrowing Association of Chihuahua (SPV), in collaboration with the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Twenty-three professional judges, representing 6 countries, meet at the Sheraton Chihuahua Soberano Hotel to taste and evaluate more than 40 wines and 30 distillates each day. The 606 wines and spirits, from 18 producing states, will compete for Silver, Gold and Grand Gold medals.
Additional trophies, “Revelations of the Mexico Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles”, will be awarded to the most innovative beverages that represent future trends in the industry, within the country, but also globally.
“Each year, the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles takes place in a different part of the country, encouraging the region’s drinks and giving international visibility to its touristic attractions”, detailed Baudouin Havaux, president of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
“This year, the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles faces a double challenge: to promote the host region and create a quality seal of trust for consumers, while guaranteeing the integrity and safety of all the people who participate in the contest in this particular time of pandemic”.
“We are sure that the 4th edition of México Selection by CMB will show the great viticultural wealth and national production of quality spirits to the world, as well as the great capacity that the State of Chihuahua has to organize an event of international stature with the sanitary measures that our times demand”.
The 606 participating wines and spirits come from the states of Baja California, Coahuila, Querétaro, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Chihuahua, Sonora, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Guerrero, Chiapas, Michoacán, Nayarit, Estado de Mexico and Veracruz. The number of samples registered in the fourth edition of the contest is the largest representation of Mexican products ever seen in a national and international competition, and represents a new annual record for the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Mexico.
Most of the samples of the México Selection by CMB are wines (514 total products received), of varieties such as Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Sauvignon, Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, in addition to other types of grapes with less prominence. The participating national spirits correspond to categories such as Tequila, Mezcal, Bacanora, Sotol, Rum and different spirits and fermented beverages of regional fruits.

The México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is organized by the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a contest recognized as the most important benchmark for the quality of wines and spirits for the national and international market.

The México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is also the only touring wine and spirits championship in the country, and the only one that carries out rigorous quality controls on every one of the awarded wines and spirits after tasting.
