The México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Chihuahua 2020 awards medals to 141 wines and 39 spirits from Mexico.
The host state, Chihuahua, wins 13 medals for its wines and 6 for its spirits. For the fourth consecutive year, Baja California remains at the top of the winning list, with 67 medals awarded to its wines and 1 medal for a local production spirit.
Mexico City. March 05, 2021.- The results of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Chihuahua 2020 are available. The international jury awarded Silver, Gold and Grand Gold medals to wines and spirits from 18 producing states. The states that have won the most medals in the wine category this year are Baja California and Coahuila. The awarded spirits come mainly from the states of Oaxaca and Chihuahua.
In this 4th edition of the wine and spirits contest, 16 wines received the Grand Gold Medal, compared to 6 in 2019. This year Baja California tops the list of Grand Gold Medals, with 8 awards. Coahuila remains in the second position, with 4 Grand Gold Medals. In the spirits section, Oaxaca tops the list of products recognized with the highest award of the contest, with 3 awards. It is followed by the states of Chihuahua and Guerrero, with 2 and 1 Grand Gold Medals respectively.
The tasters of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Chihuahua 2020 awarded Gold Medals to 68 wines and Silver Medals to 57 wines. Within spirits, 20 products received Gold Medals and 13 Silver Medals.
The next host state of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Guanajuato 2021, received 7 medals for its wines and 2 more for its spirits. 2020 is also an extraordinary year for Chihuahua; with a total of 13 awards for its wines, including 1 Grand Gold Medal for Anxelin Shiraz 2017 from Hacienda de Encinillas, and 6 awards for its spirits, including 2 Grand Gold Medals for Sotol Honorable Su Señoría Wheeleri and Sotol Coyote Triunfo del Desierto Chihuahua, the state received the highest number of medals ever awarded in its history.
The “2020 Winning States”, that is, the states that have obtained the highest number of awards from the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, both in wines and spirits, are Baja California (68 medals) and Coahuila (25 medals), followed by Chihuahua (19), Querétaro (19), Guanajuato (9), Oaxaca (9) and San Luis Potosí (with 6 medals).
Within the framework of the post-event program of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, promotional activities for the awarded products are planned, including the Award Ceremony of the Winning Wines and Spirits of the 4th Edition of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, to be held in small groups on April 12 and 13, at the Wine Bar by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles facilities in Mexico City.

ABOUT MÉXICO SELECTION BY CONCOURS MONDIAL DE BRUXELLES
The 4th Edition of the México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, originally scheduled for the month of September 2020, was held from February 24 to 26 in Chihuahua, in response to the health emergency caused by the Coronavirus (Covid-19). A total of 606 wines and spirits, from 18 producing states, competed for a distinction. A total of 23 judges, from 5 countries, blindly tasted and scored the wines and spirits. The next México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will be held in the State of Guanajuato, at the end of 2021.
The México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles aims to highlight the characteristics of quality Mexican wines, in Mexico and the world, while promoting healthy competition to raise qualitative levels, and attract international opinion leaders to disseminate, in their respective media and communication channels, information on the achievements of Mexican viticulture and the national spirits industry.
