The 7th edition of the México Selection by CMB begins today in Mérida, Yucatán. The wine and spirits competition brings together 35 judges from 12 countries, who will be in charge of recognizing the best products in the largest blind tasting ever seen in the history of Mexico.

Mérida, Yucatán, November 14th, 2023. Held within the framework of Sabores de Yucatán Festival agenda, the México Selection by CMB 2023 started today in the City of Mérida, Yucatán. The wine and spirits competition is organized by the Secretariat of Tourism Development of the State of Yucatán, together with the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

Thirty-five professional judges, representing Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Spain, United States, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico and the United Kingdom, meet at the facilities of the Yucatan International Congress Center (CIC) to taste and evaluate almost 50 distilled wines every day. The 819 wines and spirits, from 20 producing states in Mexico, will compete for Silver, Gold and Great Gold medals.

Additional trophies, “México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Revelations”, will be awarded to the most innovative drinks that represent the future trends of the industry, within Mexico, but also globally.

After having visited several wine-producing states in Mexico, it is with great expectation, but also with great emotion, that for the first time we bring the tasters of México Selection by CMB to the charming State of Yucatán.

“This is a land with a very particular atmosphere. A territory full of history, unparalleled countryside and sea landscapes, authentic gastronomy and exceptional people. We are excited to feel the love of the Yucatecans and discover their rich culture and unique heritage,” reveals Baudouin Havaux, president of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

The 819 participating wines and spirits come from the states of Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Veracruz, Yucatan and Zacatecas. The number of samples registered in the seventh edition of the contest is the largest representation of Mexican products ever seen in a national and international competition. Most of the México Selection by CMB samples are wines, from varieties such as Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, in addition.

The tasting juries, recognized based on their experience and international capacity as tasters, will evaluate the participating samples strictly blindly, according to the rules established by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
