México Selection by CMB Yucatán 2023: awards medals to 158 wines and 84 spirits from Mexico

The State of Baja California dominates the medal table, winning 77 medals for its wines and remaining at the top of the contest for the seventh consecutive year. Yucatán, 2023 host state, wins 2 medals for its spirits.

Mexico City, Mexico. November 24th, 2023. The results of the México Selection by CMB Yucatán 2023 are ready. The international jury awarded Silver, Gold and Grand Gold medals to wines and spirits from 21 producing states in Mexico. The states that have won the most medals in the wine category this year are Baja California, with 77 medals; Guanajuato, with 25, and Coahuila, with 22. The award-winning spirits come mainly from the states of Oaxaca, Jalisco and Puebla.

In this 7th edition of the wine and spirits contest, 15 wines received the Grand Gold Medal, compared to 10, in 2022. This year Baja California also tops the list of Grand Gold Medals, with 9 awards. Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí and Querétaro consolidate themselves in second position with 1 Grand Gold Medal respectively. In the spirits section, Oaxaca and Jalisco lead the list of products recognized with the highest awards at the contest, with 3 Grand Gold Medals each. They are followed by the states of Puebla, Chihuahua and Sonora, with 1 Grand Gold Medal respectively.

The tasters of the México Selection by CMB Yucatán 2023 awarded Gold Medals to 51 wines and Silver Medals to 92 wines. Within the spirits, 36 products received Gold Medals and 39 Silver Medals.

2023 is an extraordinary year for the State of Jalisco, which for the first time in its productive history is awarded 1 Grand Gold Medal for Altos Norte Vinícola Bruto Albariño Méthode Traditionnelle 2022. Aguascalientes also returns to the top of the medal table with 1 Grand Gold Medal for Vinícola El Secreto Alessandrina Rosé 2022.

Yucatán, host 2023 of the competition, received awards for its spirits: D’Aristi Xtabentún and Gin Katún, both with Silver Medal.

The “2023 Winning States“, the states that have obtained the greatest number of awards from the México Selection by CMB, both in wines and spirits, are Baja California (77 medals) and Oaxaca and Guanajuato (26 total medals each). They are followed by Coahuila (22), Jalisco (21) and Querétaro (with 14 medals).

Within the framework of the post-event program of the México Selection by CMB, promotional activities for the award-winning products are planned, including the Awards Ceremony for the Winning Wines and Spirits of the 7th Edition of the México Selection by CMB Yucatán 2023, to be held in February 2024 in Mexico City.
